Overview
The Department of English first offered women's literature courses in the early 1970's and continues to encourage vibrant scholarship and teaching in women's and gender studies. Undergraduate and graduate students in our department can study with outstanding faculty members in a number of courses, including 20th Century Women Writers, Lesbian Literature, Introduction to Lesbian and Gay Literature, Chicana literature, Black Women Writers, Native American Women Writers, Medieval Women Writers, Women and Popular Culture, The Rhetoric of Women Writers, Women Filmmakers, Writing of Poetry: Women's Poetry, and Feminist Theory and Criticism. Our courses support the major and graduate specialization in Women's and Gender Studies, the Ethnic Studies major, and the undergraduate minor in LBGTQ Studies.
