English Graduate Student Association
The English Graduate Student Association, EGSA, is an organization formed and run by graduate students in English. It is designed to keep all graduate students in touch and address the issues that matter to all of us, whether new to the program or about to enter the academic job market.
The graduate students nominate and elect an Executive Committee in the fall of each year--six people are appointed to serve as liaisons between student needs and the rest of the department. Year-round, students are plugged into an active listserve for whatever issues they want to raise--travel funding, forming study groups, information on upcoming conferences, campus events, the No-Name Reading Series, etc. It's also a quick way to stay in touch with our Graduate Chair (the only faculty member allowed on the listserve) and our guardian angel, Sue Hart, the Graduate Secretary, through those friendly reminders she sends about due dates for fellowship forms and committee lists, and all those other things you'll be on the verge of forgetting.
