Many of the department faculty and graduate students are actively engaged and have partial appointments with interdisciplinary academic programs at UNL. Graduate students in English may obtain Area of Specialization Certificates at the MA and PhD levels in Great Plains Studies, Human Rights and Human Diversity, Nineteenth-Century Studies, and Women's Studies. These interdisciplinary programs host many activities, including symposia, conferences, outside speakers, panel discussions, and so on in which department faculty and graduate students often participate.
