It's not all just reading and writing...

Mission

Our website has moved. Go to http://www.unl.edu/writing for new information.

The Writing Center facilitates the learning of writing; we will aid, at all stages of the process, UNL faculty, students, and staff interested in becoming better writers or better teachers of writing. We utilize strategies rooted in composition, rhetoric, and creative writing pedagogies, individualized for each writer and each session. We seek to demystify the writing process, so that writers may feel a sense of control rather than helplessness when facing a writing task. We maintain that revision and response are important writing components and hope to share that vision with those who visit the Writing Center.

Philosophy

Writing is a process; by that we mean it evolves from initial thoughts and notes to rough drafts and revisions to a polished product. The writing process unfolds through identifiable but not prescriptive stages. Writing is both an individual and a collective activity: while the process is unique to each individual and to each task, writers can benefit from drawing off of the approaches and strategies of others and from receiving feedback from others on their work. Additionally, writing is not merely a means of transcribing fully-developed ideas; rather, it can be a process of discovery and learning.
