University of Nebraska–Lincoln

Department of English

It's not all just reading and writing...

Staff

Our website has moved. Go to http://www.unl.edu/writing for new information.

The Writing Center is staffed by graduate students from the English Department who are experienced students and teachers of composition, rhetoric, creative writing, and literature.

Coordinator: Frances Condon

Associate Professor of English
Office: Andrews 221
Phone: 472-1814

Associate Coordinator: Mike Kelly

Mike is a third-year PhD student specializing in Composition and Rhetoric. His academic interests include writing center scholarship and the politics of composition while his non-academic interests include football, going to rock shows and drinking Coronas and Chardonnay with friends. He lives in Omaha with his wife (Jamie), son (Nick) and dog (Gus). Mike tries to wear flip-flops until it’s absolutely too cold to not wear shoes. If he were on a reality TV show, he would be better suited for Survivor than the Real World.

Emily Danforth

Emily M. Danforth was born and raised in Miles City, Montana - home of the World Famous Bucking Horse Sale - which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for hosting the most intoxicated people, per capita, at any given U.S. event. Obviously, she feels she's called to write fiction. She completed her BA in English-creative writing at Hofstra University before living as a starving writer in New York for two years. Hoping to again eat something other than mac-and-cheese, she moved to Missoula, MT to complete her MFA in Fiction. Now at UNL, emily is a second-year PhD candidate in Creative Writing, sometimes working on her novel-in-progress, 'Lucky Human'. She is a fan of slasher-flicks, soft-cheeses, neo-folk-pop music, home restoration projects, and her partner, Erica. She is not a fan of Acai juice. Gross.

Alison Friedow

Alison is a second-year PhD student specializing in Composition and Rhetoric. She is originally from South Dakota, but completed her undergraduate degree at UNL. After graduating with her MA in English from Creighton University, she returned to UNL to continue her studies. Her primary academic interests include critical pedagogies of difference and teacher education and development. She is excited about teaching in the Writing Center as well as the writing classroom this year, and is also currently working on a collaborative project that takes up issues of racism and literacy instruction.

Cody Lumpkin

Cody Lumpkin was born in Georgia, around hog-killing time. So far he has had a gun pointed at him twice, and his former brother-in-law set himself on fire with a flaming drink.

Carrie Walker

Carrie’s sunny demeanor in no way reflects the cold Buffalo winters of her youth. After spending her summer experiencing Southeast Asia, Carrie starts her second year as an English PhD. In her spare time, Carrie enjoys belting out karaoke hits from the disco era, fishing for trout in backwater Nebraska streams and string cheese.
