The Gipsey [sic] Countess: a Novel. By Miss Gunning. 4 Vols. 12mo.
14s. Boards. Longman and Rees. 1799.
The past and present are strangely blended
in this novel. Lady Offington's narrative of her adventures is unpleasantly
interrupted by the circumstances of the day.
Monthly Magazine, Suppl. V8 (Jan. 20, 1800), 1054.

Miss Gunning's "Gipsey [sic]
Countess" is an interesting and well-told tale of domestic manners.
The character of Julia is well drawn. The language throughout is spirited,
and generally correct, and many of the sentiments are original; and happily
applied.

other reviews, or just steal them? This review is almost word for word from

The Gipsy Countess; a Novel. By Miss Gunning. In Four Volumes. 12mo.
Longman and Rees. 1799.
This is an interesting and well-told tale
of domestic manners; the character of Julia is finely drawn; the language
throughout is spirited, and in general correct; many of the sentiments are
original, and happily applied; and, to speak generally, we think the work
entitled to considerable praise.
