Biographical Information

Though there is little to be uncovered on the biography of Sargant, the preface of her collection offers a look into her life. This short statement by the author herself allows the reader to conclude that she was happiest when she wrote her poetry. It is apparent that her life was less then glorious, her poetry detailing her short-comings in finding joy due to ‘misfortunes’ and domestic pain, although she did find calm in religion and seemed to care much for her friends. Despite what seems to be her almost excessive modesty, Sargant apparently felt an obligation to the public to share her thoughts and opinions.

It is believed that Sargant was close to her father and brothers and maintained a fondness for these men throughout her life.
